Students from the Barbados Voca-tional Training Board (BVTB) put on show their talents at the The Barbados Association of Guidance Counsellors (BAGC) National Career Showcase at the University of the West Indies held recently. At the BVTB booth there was a model Purple Heart wooden house built to scale. One of the carpentry intructors at the BVTB, Wayde Cadogan spoke to The Barbados Advocate about the model and the hard work his students put in to complete the project.

Codogan explained that in the first semester of the carpentry course, students are asked to create an architectural design for class. At the end of the project, students will build a model of the structure they designed. At the showcase, the winning design was a three-bedroom, one-bathroom Purple Heart wooden House. Mr. Codogan said the house featured a water resistant foam sheet roof, treated pine floor boards, old time French sash windows, miniature furniture and the house was wired with working LED bulbs in the each room.

The Barbados Vocational Training Board which will celebrate its 38th anniversary in March of this year is a premier agency of social development which designs and delivers industry needs and empowers participants at any level of scholastic attainment to operate effectively in the market place, and which fulfils Government’s Human Resource Development Policy.
