Members of the Anglican Church in Barbados will be coming together on Sunday for one big service of fellowship.
During a press conference at Radisson Aquatica Resort, Aquatic Gap, St Michael, Bishop of Barbados Dr John Holder said the annual Anglican Diocesan service, scheduled to be held at Kensington Oval, will have a packed congregation of at least 6 000 Anglicans.
Intentional Discipleship has been chosen as the theme of the service, designed to remind the gathering about what they should do for the public to see that they are Disciples of Christ, and the positive impact they must have on society while addressing the negativity aspects.
The main speaker at the event will be Reverend Dr James Tengatenga, who has vast experience within the Anglican Communion.
Bishop Tengatenga serves on the Faculty of the University of the South’s School of Theology as a distinguished professor of Global Anglicanism, and related subjects.
Born in Zimbabwe, Bishop Tengatenga was consecrated bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Southern Malawi in 1998, where he became known for his HIV ministry and for his unwavering support for LGBT and human rights.
He was elected chairman of the Anglican Consultative Council in 2009 for a six-year term, which concluded at the 2016 gathering in Zambia.
At the upcoming service, Bishop Tengatenga is expected to speak on issues related to the Anglican Church, and also problems that may be affecting Barbados’ society.
