The redevelopment of the Oistins corridor is a great opportunity for private/public sector partnership.
Christ Church South Member of Parliament John Boyce made this comment on Saturday at the Oistins Bay Gardens during the sixth and final community meeting on the Physical Development Plan (PDP), which is currently being amended.
A member of the audience, the Health Minister said that further development of the area would be costly, especially in light of the area being earmarked for the new Bus Terminal.
He also highlighted that with the Garden and other surrounding areas being prone to flooding during heavy rainfall, more money would have to be spent in addressing drainage issues going forward, and hence suggested that a partnership would be necessary in light of the financial challenges currently facing the government.
Consultant Jeff Ramsay outlined moments earlier that there was much to be done along that Southern corridor, a major amount which could be achieved quickly considering that most of the property belonged to the Crown.
He outlined that work was slated for the civic centre, which would require adaptive use and for a lot of the vacant buildings with impressive water front views. In addition, increasing foot and vehicular mobility to and from the town was to be addressed, along with lightning and signage.
Key opportunity sites for redevelopment include: the former Christ Church District Hospital site, Oistins Commons, the Commercial Corridor along Highway Seven, Church Hill’s Former Bulky Waste Site and Oistins Public Centre.
All speakers underlined the historical importance of the area, insisting that this would be highlighted throughout its development. (JMB)
