Barbados hosted a special evening of Classical Music by legendary German piano duo Genova & Dimitrov in celebration of 50 years of diplomatic relations between Barbados and Germany, at the Frank Collymore Hall last Sunday evening.
The two countries formally established diplomatic relations on March 14, 1967. Barbados is represented in Germany through its embassy in Brussels (Belgium) and Germany is represented in Barbados from its regional embassy for the Eastern Caribbean in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.
Performing to a packed hall of locals and visitors, Aglika Genova and Liuben Dimitrov wowed the crowd with their wonderful classical renditions of various songs such as The Swing, The Top, Trumpet and Drum and Blind Man’s Bluff, to name a few. This duo is one of the most critically acclaimed ensembles worldwide, starting their career by winning the ‘Grand Slam’ of international piano duo competitions within just two years. Their flawless technique captivated the attention of the audience, which earned them a standing ovation and loud screams at the end of their performance.
Another wonderful performance was by Special Guest Amanda Fields and Eric Cobham, who accompanied her on the piano. Amanda is known locally by her unique voice, which sends chills up the spines of those who listen to her sing. She performed three musical renditions – An die Musik, The Laughing Song and The Willow Song – which all left the audience in awe.
The proceeds, which were collected at the event, will in part go to charitable organisations in Barbados.
