Barbadians must be able to trust God.

This was the lesson given by Canon Noel Titus, Assistant priest of St. Matthias Anglican Church, during the Old Harrisonian Society’s (OHS) Thanksgiving Service on Sunday. On the fifth Sunday of the Lenten season, Canon Titus told the congregation and members of the OHS that fear and doubt can affect our relationships with others.

He explained that they are told to trust those who ask them to perform difficult tasks and to work with difficult people. He added that this is a challenge faced by many Christians who believe in God as trust is much more than words. He therefore emphasised that people must trust God.

During his sermon, the priest acknowledged the contribution of the educational institution, Harrison College and its alumni, Old Harrisonian Society and spoke about their spiritual challenges.

“I believe that it is a challenge for you also to have benefited from the best the school has to offer, a challenge to trust God. To trust God because people will be expecting much of you, who have benefited from the institution. People will be looking to you as well to provide role models for many youth...” said Canon Titus.

He ended by emphasising that although there may be some unreasonable expectations of others, the OHS is there to help with the building of the nation and the grooming of young people who will eventually take their place.

President of the OHS, Cameron Sobers, expressed his appreciation to the St. Matthias church for welcoming the organ-isation to their parish as well as celebrating with them during their Founder’s Week. During the service, the organisation made a donation towards the church’s benevolent fund.

Harrison College, one of the oldest secondary institutions, is celebrating its 284th anniversary this year.
