‘Family Fun Day’ as NIS celebrates 50th anniversary

It was an occasion of fun and games for staff of the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) and their family members during yesterday’s “Family Fun Day”.

The all-day White Monday activity commenced after ten in the morning with a parade of teams on the NIS grounds, near the Frank Walcott building. There were four teams – Blue Lighting, Golden Eagles (yellow), Green Grenades and
De Incredibles (red).

This high-energy activity was won by the latter group who pulled out all the stops including having masked dancers and a humorous introduction.

Following the parade, members of each side competed for the top spots in contests including the watermelon eating competition, the balloon toss, the balloon relay, the blow the ball challenge, the sack race and the lime and spoon race.
Deputy Director of the NIS, Jennifer Hunte told the press that a total of 350 individuals had registered for the day’s event. She further said the ‘Family Fun Day’ formed part of the NIS’ 50th anniversary celebrations.

The week of activities commence on Sunday with a church service.

It will continue today with a Customer Appreciation Day, tomorrow (Wednesday) with Staff Appreciation Day and there will a Community Outreach on Thursday aimed at reminding the public about the importance of NIS, the significance of making contributions and the benefits to be derived from the NIS.

The week’s activities will also comprise of a Police Band Concert on Friday to be held on the NIS grounds. Meanwhile on Saturday, there will be a 50th anniversary Gala at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre where some staff members will be honoured. (MG)
