Students from the St. Margaret’s Primary School, St. John’s Primary and Mount Tabor were encouraged to seize every opportunity afforded to them.

This advice came from Senator Harcourt Husbands, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, during the closing ceremony of the inaugural Errol Barrow Cooking Competition, which was held at The Lodge School yesterday afternoon.

“You may not realise it now, but some of the activities that you take part in at school – whether it be cricket, football, cooking, Brownies or Cubs – all of these activities are things that at some later date in life would form the base of a career for you,” he said.

It is for this reason that Husbands believes it is important for the students to not take competitions such as the one held yesterday lightly.

“There are tremendous careers and lots of money to be made in the area of cooking. This can become a career choice for you, where you can be self employed and employ people of your own. So I want you to take this opportunity and seize it with both hands,” he said.
