The Barbados Alzheimer’s Association has received an injection of funds to the tune of Bds$7 365 from the Financial Services Commission (FSC), through donations accumulated from its “Fitness for Charity” initiative.
The official handover was made on Wednesday by Acting CEO of the Financial Services Commission, Kester Guy, to President of the Barbados Alzheimer’s Association, Pamelia Brereton and Member of the Executive, Cyril Burke, during a special presentation held at the offices of the FSC, located in Building #4, Harbour Industrial Park, St. Michael. Initially, Bds$1 065 was raised, but an additional donation of Bds$300 came after.
“The Financial Services Commission is indeed very grateful and thankful [to partner] with the Barbados Alzheimer’s Association and with Flawless Performance Centre on this initiative of charitable contributions. This is just another part of our engagement with the wider society and we are very pleased to do so,” the Acting CEO commented.
“I know that dealing with Alzheimer’s is by no means an easy task and I would like to salute the President and her team for the hard work that they have been doing and the strides that have been made in Barbados thus far, in dealing with this very difficult condition,” he added.
Communications Officer with the FSC, Lynette Taylor, explained that the Alzheimer’s Association was selected by staff to benefit from the donations made from the FSC’s Fitness for Charity programme, which is now in its second year. The two-part initiative she said, not only consists of a fitness challenge element designed to raise greater awareness amongst staff about the need to better care for their health, but it also consists of a fundraising and social outreach element, which sees staff members raising funds to benefit a local health charity. She further noted that the FSC partnered with Flawless Performance Centre located in Sky Mall, for this year’s “Fitness for Charity” programme.
Whilst the cheque was handed over to the Barbados Alzheimer’s Association on behalf of the FSC, presentations were also made to staff members for their participation in making the Fitness for Charity
programme a success.
