The District Board of Administration of the Wesleyan Holiness Church, in conjunction with the Wesleyan community in Barbados, has made a commitment to donate Bds $44 000 to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).
Superintendent of the Wesleyan Holiness Church, Reverend Dr. McAthin Hinds, accompanied by District Secretary Janet Sealy and members of the church’s Board, delivered the promissory note to QEH CEO, Dr. Dexter James, during a brief handover ceremony held in the QEH boardroom on Wednesday.
“Our denomination, the Wesleyan Holiness Church in Barbados, as it approached the 50th anniversary of our Independence; we considered several possibilities as to what we could do in order to commemorate such a historical event. After considering many activities – church services, public events and so on – the thought was noted that perhaps we should look for an institution that contributes essentially to Barbados and maybe make a tangible monetary donation there. After deciding on that, we thought that the Queen Elizabeth Hospital would be such an institution,” Reverend Hinds commented.
“We looked into the Equipment Needs Prospectus of the QEH and we saw the enormous amount of equipment needs that were represented and we felt that we were on the right track, if we could really make a presentation in this regard. We chose two ECG machines and a recovery bed,” Reverend Hinds added, while expressing his hope that the contribution would go a long way in touching, reaching and saving lives.
QEH CEO, Dr. Dexter James, acknowledged that the donation would indeed go a long way in transforming lives at the hospital. He meanwhile stressed that the funds given by the Wesleyan Holiness Church will be used for their intended purpose, to provide the greatest good and will not be mingled with operating funds.
Accepting the contribution on behalf of the QEH board, Dr. James thanked the District Board of Administration of the Wesleyan Holiness Church for the gracious donation, noting that there will be other avenues for partnerships between the QEH and the church, in the future.
