PARENTS are making the wrong move in allowing television shows and video games to raise their children.

This declaration came from Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite, who announced yesterday, that he had been thrown into a state of sadness after hearing a story last week; about a
nine-year-old boy who said he wanted to “kill as many people as possible” when asked what he wanted to be in life.

According to the Minister of Home Affairs, when the boy was asked why he wanted to carry out such an unlawful act, he answered, “those are people you see on the front page of a newspaper”.
“Since Tuesday that has been bothering me. I went to Guadeloupe to attend a Ministerial meeting on Friday, it was bothering my soul. Come to church this morning, it is bothering my soul,” Brathwaite said.

“We are giving children these video games with lots of shooting and cursing, and then we wonder why they feel this connection to the gun. Then we wonder why, they don’t have the respect that they should for human life.

“But those of you of faith, those of you who like me believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, we have a responsibility to save more of these young people, to take back over this society of ours,” the Attorney General added.

Brathwaite was speaking to the congregation at the Abundant Life Assembly, where a service was held to observe The Registration Department’s 130th anniversary.

The Minister suggested to the leadership of the church that maybe it is time churches created a newspaper to spread the good news, “because good news doesn’t seem to travel very far”.

“So we have a responsibility to let these young people know that there’s good in this society. So that instead of saying that he wants to kill as many people as possible, he will say ‘I want to work for the Lord, I want to give charity, I want to heal the sick, I want to give to those who are in need’. We need to recapture this land of ours. Each one of you has to make it your mission to do what you can to save more of our young people,” he said. (AH)
