NEGLECT of the City cannot continue!
This was the declaration of Government Minister and Member of Parliament for Christ Church East Central, Ronald Jones, as he delivered brief remarks during a press conference held in King Street, last Saturday, to speak about the plans Democratic Labour Party (DLP) candidate for The City, Henderson Williams, has in store for revitalising the historic area.
Jones said The City is supposed to be that area of the economy that gives flesh to other parts of the island.
However, the Minister of Education declared that neglect of The City can no longer be allowed, if the economy is to grow and have an impact on the suburban, urban and rural sections of Barbados.
On that note, Jones assured that he believes that Williams, who was born and raised in The City, is the man to do the job.
“It is a full endorsement. Of course, coming from me that might not say a lot because he has been fully endorsed by the Executive Council and the General Council of the Democratic Labour Party. On behalf of the Party, I wish him all the best. We will continue to do what we have to do,” Jones said.
“When we listen to the things he talks about and the various ideas that he has for the revitalisation and reinvigoration of and renewal of The City, then we are impressed. Some of those ideas will find their way into our manifesto because it means that we will go full push on engineering and re-engineering some of those issues,” he added. (AH)
