Member of Parliament for Christ Church West Central, Stephen Lashley.

MEMBER of Parliament for Christ Church West Central, Stephen Lashley, has given the assurance to his constituency that work on the long-awaited multi-purpose facility will soon begin.

He was delivering remarks during the Democratic Labour Party’s (DLP) Leading Everyone in Christ Church political meeting at the Deighton Griffith School on Sunday night.

Predicting that the DLP will deliver every seat in Christ Church, Lashley lamented that there are those who state that nothing is being done to help the constituency which he represents. He used the opportunity to reveal that the
old supermarket building in Silver Hill, which he said was promised by the constituents two decades ago by the previous administration, will soon be redeveloped.

“With the help of the Maria Holder Trust and with expending over $1 million, we will start on that building come the first week of December. We will forever transform Silver Hill,” he assured.

While giving a report card of the work carried out under his Ministry, Lashley also gave the assurance that the DLP government is clear about the path to be taken in order to return Barbados to economic growth and sustainability. “We have to face the facts. The facts of what has happened in Barbados over the years. We have to return to a climate of productivity.”

He said the actions, though they may be uncomfortable are designed to rescue Barbados and to take it forward. “To be able to provide the services that we have grown accustomed to providing.”

“We are engaged in some transformational work. The solutions to our economic challenges are not simple, but we want - particularly over the next weeks and months – to walk Barbadians through a pathway of progress, a pathway in which we have to hold each other’s hands. We have to walk with each other in friendship and camaraderie,” he said. (JH)
