MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT for St. Michael West Central, James Paul, is appealing to the Ministry of Transport and Works (MTW) to fix a road in his constituency which is proving to be a headache for residents, vehicular traffic, and pedestrians.
Paul told The Barbados Advocate during a visit to Pillarsdorf Road, Grazettes St. Michael, where a section of the road is covered in water, and is in dire need of repair, that residents are fed up of having to put up with the problem which is making it difficult for the occupants of one household to access their property.
The Member of Parliament said the problem has been going on for over six months, and all along he has been trying to acquire the services of MTW to fix the road.
He said as far as he is aware, the road has sunken due to a drainage issue. Paul explained that recently a six inch main was changed in the area, but there has been a persistent settling of water in that section of the road.
“We need to get action from MTW as soon as possible to try to address this particular issue because it has been a particular inconvenience to the residents in the area.
“I have actually worked with the MTW depot at Richmond to try to get them to do something and they have said they have lacked some resources in terms of doing it, but I think this has gone on long enough. Really, this particular stretch of road could be fixed,” he said.
Paul said while MTW has promised to correct the problem this year, he is hoping that they fulfil the promise. He mentioned that he has observed that in other constituencies work is being done to “address issues which are not half as bad as this particular issue”.
“Action was promised and we need to see action very soon. This issue has been going on for far too long, and I really think that we need to get some resources here to resolve it. But, I want to thank the BWA [Barbados Water Authority] crew that was here last weekend working on the main,” he said. (AH)
