Five new champions are celebrating after an exciting play-off in the annual Courtesy Garage Medal Golf Championships.

In bright sunshine last weekend, at the Barbados Golf Club, contenders fought for the right to be recognised as divisional champions for 2017 after qualifying for the play-offs based on steady performances over the past 12 months.

Some fierce tussles were witnessed on the fairways and greens, before Barbados player Maurice Forde posted the day’s best score of 73 to emerge overall gross champion, while Allison Rimple won the women’s division with a nett 68 over 18 holes.

Veteran Lennox Bourne won the 0-12 handicap category with a net 72 while Accountant Gordon Walker shone among the seniors (50 years and over) as he took that division with a net 71.

Bryan Robinson, who came through after a keen tussle with Bernard Babb over the last three holes, captured the men’s 13 and over division with a net 70, which was one stroke better than his nearest rival.

Players qualified for last weekend’s championship round of the medal tournament after collecting points over a 12-month period in 2017 when 12 competitions were sponsored by Courtesy Garage through their Nissan and Hyundai brands.

During the presentation ceremony, which followed lunch at the BGC’s club-house, Courtesy Sales Executive Sharon Clarke thanked players for supporting the event and said they were happy to partner the BGC in such an exciting series of tournaments.

Operations Director of the Barbados Golf Club, Carleon Brome Jnr. thanked the sponsors , and all players, for their support of popular medal tournaments over the past two years and assured them that the series in 2018 will be just as exciting.

Monthly medal tournaments usually attract in excess of 60 players and are being sponsored by Courtesy Garage for the third year running, through their Nissan and Hyundai brands, and another 12 are scheduled to be contested in 2018.
