FORMER City of Bridgetown MP and Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Senator Patrick Todd, is feeling confident that he has what it takes to remove Opposition Barbados Labour Party (BLP) leader Mia Mottley from the St Michael North East seat where she has been sitting since 1994.

Todd, who was recently named as one of the Democratic Labour Party’s (DLP) three remaining candidates for Barbados’ next General Election constitutionally due this year, won The City of Bridgetown seat in 2008, but lost it in 2013, told reporters yesterday that he is ready for his new task.

“We have defeated her before and I am very confident that I have what it takes to ensure that we leave no stone unturned to ensure that we are able to regain that seat,” Todd declared.
“We are a team, and the Democratic Labour Party, we are no strangers to elective politics. We have taken our country into Independence; we have had three consecutive terms as a government, from 1961 to 1976, so we are looking forward to a third term and the St Michael North East constituency is a very important part of that puzzle. I see myself as a team player. I have come up against significant odds in the past…” he added.

The candidate reminded that in 2008 he was the individual who was able to win The City seat which was held by the BLP for decades. This is why Todd, who described himself as “your humble servant”, is looking forward to the opportunity to make history again.

Todd said while the DLP holds majority of the 11 constituencies in St Michael, he is focussed on ensuring that “the entire parish of St Michael is represented by the Democratic Labour Party”.

“We have held the St Michael North East seat on a number of occasions by the late Leroy Brathwaite, where he won that seat in 1986 by around 1 000 votes, and was able to retain that seat in the 1991 elections. So I am looking forward to playing my part,” he said.
