Minister of Labour, Senator Dr. Esther Byer-Suckoo, is giving the assurance that her department will promote social equality and justice in all the cases before the Labour Department and the Employment Rights Tribunal.
“The Ministry of Labour, Social Security and Human Resource Development will promote social equality and justice through the application of our labour laws, such as the Employment Rights Act and the development of other important laws, such as the Sexual Harassment Act,” she stated.
She made the comments while officially opening the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados’ (CTUSAB) 11th Biennial Delegates Conference at the Savannah Hotel on Thursday night.
Pointing out that CTUSAB has been and continues to be at the forefront of these areas, Byer-Suckoo stated, “We are dealing with efficiency, facilitation, productivity, health and wellness, environmental issues including the green economy and clean-up campaigns, and employment, especially employment of youth and disabled persons. And we are working on completing a new Protocol. The input of CTUSAB on these matters has been valuable so far.”
Therefore, she congratulated the agency on its 21st anniversary, saying that at this stage persons really began to make a mark on the world.
“Using that reasoning, this means that we can expect a maturing CTUSAB in the years ahead to be even more vibrant, make an even greater contribution, and take firm hold of leadership in more areas. This is an exciting prospect and I look forward to working with that more mature CTUSAB,” the minister stated.
She also took the opportunity to remind the audience that the same faith persons applied in their personal lives, can be applied to our national issues. (JMB)
