ROSEANNE Myers, the president of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) thinks that the private sector needs to look internally and to lead from the front when it comes to interfacing with government.
Myers was part of a Private Sector panel which discussed the Budget Finance and Economic Affairs Minister, Christopher Sincker presented on Tuesday.
The private sector official noted that from where she sits, “we as the private sector have to look inward and we have to look inward at how best to work with agencies of Government.”
She said, that her expectation is that within another year the private sector should have a set of data “so that when we are talking to the government we can talk with specific numbers.”
According to her, “as we start to share information we realise that we actually do not share information, and we ourselves do not have systems to collect the data that we need on any topic.”
She has told colleagues that when she goes into some private sector companies they appeared to be more bureaucratic than the government department in terms of the way they do things. (JB)
