THE Regional Police Training Centre (RPTC) has embarked on a number of initiatives to upgrade and enhance the facility, out of recognition that their delivery of training is more than providing an opportunity for learning.
Deputy Commandant of the RPTC, Rodney Archer, said the Training Centre also recognises that it is operating in a competitive environment.
“We are in the process of installing air-conditioning units in one of our senior male accommodations, with the kind assistance of the Embassy of the United States of America. In this regard, I would wish to thank the Electrical Department of the Royal Barbados Police Force for the rewiring of that accommodation to facilitate the upgrade.
“We are also actively pursuing the instalment of turning and moving targets at our shooting range. Such an upgrade would make shooting on that range more realistic and challenging. It is also our desire and intention to build a roof over the area on the shooting range to cover the area from the building to the target to alleviate issues, such as adverse weather,” he said.
The Deputy Commandant was speaking about the developmental plans recently, at the 141st Passing Out Parade for recruits from the Royal Anguilla Police Force, where he also appealed for assistance of any kind in acquiring a firearms training simulator. He said the machine has the capacity of sharpening the awareness of police officers in casual but dangerous and life-threatening situations.
“It is an important tool. I trust that this appeal awakens the generosity of our donors and business partners. We further intend during the course of this calendar year, to upgrade our obstacle course, in our quest to produce more robust and able-bodied police officers,” he said. (AH)
