There is a call for society to value its women.
Rector of the St. George Parish Church, Reverend John Rogers, as he delivered the sermon yesterday morning during the Easter morning service, said that in fact that call is rooted in the Easter message. He made the point while noting that in all four Gospels of the Bible, the importance of women is highlighted, as it was the women who were said to have first visited the tomb of Jesus after his death.
“You are special creatures of God and he has given you attributes that I believe all of us as men would admit we do not possess. He has given you those attributes because He sees you as integral parts in His plan of salvation. To that end, you are nobody’s property but God’s property. No one has the right to abuse you, no one has the right to hit you, no one has the right to deface you,” he told the congregation of whom the majority were women.
As he called for females in our society to be valued and appreciated, Rev. Rogers contended that there is a need for women to also value themselves. He made the point while imploring women not to become so caught up “in love” with anyone that they lose sight of themselves and the value that God has placed on them and their lives.
“I want to encourage you little girls and all women in here; just as the Gospel writers recognised your value, the Church recognises your value and the society is called to recognise your value; you can be anything you set your mind to in this life. You can be leaders in our society and the world, you can achieve anything you set your mind to,” he maintained.
The Reverend’s comments came as he also pointed to the role women play in ordering the lives of men.
“Mary Magdalene gives us a wonderful example of one of those attributes that women bring to the table that men just do not possess, at least to that extent – patience, a willingness to step back, a willingness to seek out, a willingness to search for the best possible solution… For some of us if there were not women in our lives we would have nothing because everything we see we catch at,” he said.
