FOR their contribution to the development of Barbados, the efforts of nine Barbadians were officially recognised during a regal reception on Saturday night.
Held on the immaculately kept grounds of Government House, the event was held in celebration of the birthday of Her Majesty the Queen and to present the insignia to the recipients of awards of the 2018 New Year’s Honours.
Her Excellency the Governor General Dame Sandra Mason presented the insignia to the guests of honour at the event, which was attended by Prime Minister the Rt Hon Freundel Stuart, Chief Justice Sir Marston Gibson, dignitaries, members of the diplomatic corps, friends, family and other specially invited guests.
On the advice of Her Majesty’s Barbados Ministers, the Queen gave orders for the appointments to the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire to the ordinary Commanders of Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order to: Shirley Farnum for services to the public service; Reverend Dr. Orlando Seale for services to Religious Education and Charles Smith for services to the public service.
To be ordinary Officers of the Civil Division of the most excellent Order of the British Empire: Linda Brooks for services to the Labour Movement; Carlton Hinds for services to the catering industry and Cedric Murrell for services to the Labour Movement.
To be Ordinary members of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, Velmo Cadogan for services to the Barbados Fire Service; Alvin Carter for services to education and Clifford Clarke for services to the Barbados Fire Service.
The Royal Barbados Police Force Band paid tribute to the guests of honour and Governor General Dame Sandra proposed a toast for the Queen’s birthday and to the honourees signaling the end of the evening’s celebrations. (JH)
