The Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic (SJPP) will do its best to make sure that it continues to meet the needs of the young people pursuing studies at the technical and vocational training institution.

This is according to Principal of the SJPP, Hector Belle, who delivered remarks at the orientation ceremony for new students at the institution yesterday. Belle stressed that this effort will ensure that young people will be in the best position possible to advance their career goals.

“Team SJPP assures you that we shall endeavour to promote your careers and equip you with the best possible training and exposure. We have many delivery tools for our use in delivering training to you and expect you to make full use of them,” the Principal noted.

He stated that in doing this, they would be continuing a fine tradition of providing excellent educational opportunities to the people of Barbados for over 45 years.
“This institution was established by the Government of Barbados in 1969. The progress and success of the Polytechnic depended on the commitment of all members of staff – supportive and academic; quality infrastructure, learning resources and most importantly, responsible students who never gave up on their reason for coming here in the first place,” he explained.

At the Polytechnic they believe that education is more than the training they provide and the tools and equipment that is used to support this training. It is also about educating the young minds on the values that they would need in life.

“This institution is not just about engines, computers, building materials and the like, but about enriching experiences that last a lifetime. Furthermore, at the SJPP, we strive to inculcate values of personal excellence and concern for others. As a student, we expect you to assume the responsibility and understand the value of self-discipline and work ethics,” he urged.

Bearing all of this in mind, Belle wished them all success in their years that they would spend at the institution.

“It is my sincere hope that you bring pride to the SJPP and be a worthy student of our great institution. We again welcome you and look forward to making meaningful contribution to your career.” (PJT)
