Governor General of Barbados, His Excellency Sir Elliott Belgrave, who visited the final school on his list for the parish of St. George this week, hopes to wrap up his visits to primary schools across the island, by the end of this month.
The Governor General revealed the above, during his official visit to the Workman’s Primary School, on Monday.
“I am very pleased to be visiting this school this morning. I think I have visited all the primary schools in St. George and this school might well be the last in this parish. If it is not the last, be assured that I will visit all the schools in this parish, indeed, all the primary schools in the island, by the end of October, if it is at all possible,” Sir Elliott remarked, during a brief address at the school.
He meanwhile reminded all present, of the reason behind his visits to the primary schools.
“My reason for making these visits to the primary schools in the island, is to enable me to meet the principals, the teachers and the students, in the hope that my visit will motivate, encourage and inspire teachers, principals and especially the students, to do the best they can at all times, in their respective roles. Namely, that the teachers will work harder in their efforts to assist the students to learn, so that they may be a credit to themselves, their schools, and their country,” the Governor General remarked.
Noting however that teachers and the school by extension cannot do it alone, the Governor General meanwhile suggested that the onus is on parents to provide a happy home and all the necessary things that are conducive to studying, for the benefit of their children.
