Adhere to the standards and rules that have been laid out for all students who have been granted entry into one of the courses of the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic (SJPP) and you will be fine.

This is the advice that the Principal of the SJPP, Hector Belle, is sending out to all of the young men and women who have been accepted to one of the programmes of this technical and vocational institution, starting for this academic year of 2016 to 2017.

He told the youth, that there will be rules everywhere that they go, which they will be expected to abide by, stating that SJPP is no different, as one of its rules relates to how they conduct themselves, while they are on campus.

“We have standards which you must adopt in order to be successful. All institutions need and must enforce standards to sustain the desired objectives expected of them. Here are a few... You must pay strict attention to your deportment. On entering this campus, you must be equipped with your student or visitor identification card, not someone else’s.” They must also ensure that they are adhering to the proper dress code that will be stipulated to
them according to their particular course of study, said the SPPP Principal.

“You must wear the prescribed uniform. All persons entering the campus will be subject to searches for weapons and illegal items by security. If you fail to comply you will not be permitted to enter.” This means that they will not be allowed to dress in an unprofessional manner, he stated.

“If you want to expose your underwear – do not enter! There are places in Barbados where you can do so but the SJPP is a workplace, a training institution – it is strictly forbidden; If seen, you will be asked to leave. No three-quarters or short pants are allowed. A prescribed polo shirt bearing the SJPP crest is required and enclosed shoes, not slippers. This is a technical college not an academic institution like the UWI. Your safety is our concern. Obscene language is not permitted on campus.”
