Celebrating Commonwealth Day! The Parliament Building with the Barbadian flag proudly displayed was the final stop during the parade of flags which followed the Royal Commonwealth Society – Barbados Branch held its Annual Multi-Faith Observance Service for Commonwealth Day 2019.
A call has been made not to allow any form of negative or vices to tear nations of the Commonwealth apart.
The appeal came recently from Anglican Bishop of Barbados The Right Reverend Michael Maxwell, as the Royal Commonwealth Society – Barbados Branch held its Annual Multi-Faith Observance Service for Commonwealth Day 2019, at the Cathedral of St. Michael and All Angels, St. Michael’s Row, Bridgetown.
Focusing on the Commonwealth Day theme, “A Connected Commonwealth”, Bishop Maxwell stressed that maintaining healthy connections are key, as “unity is strength”.
“To maintain this connectivity in love, I am therefore calling on all governments and peoples to be committed to the exercise of mutual respect and concern for each other. To be mature enough to accept differences of opinion, to embrace unity in the midst of diversity of cultures and if there be any semblance of arrogance or superiority, to cast them aside. When one nation suffers, we all should feel its pain and we should seek to rally support, in assisting that fallen nation to rise again,” the Bishop asserted.
“When one nation achieves great things, we should celebrate its success and be encouraged to do likewise, by following its example. As a Commonwealth our connectivity is to be such that we rejoice with those who rejoice and we weep with those who weep. That’s the depth of the divine love that we are this day declaring to be and it should be the modus operandi for our Commonwealth of Nations. That we are a connected Commonwealth, united in love to help each other to be the best that our creator designed us to be,” Bishop Maxwell stated. (RSM
