THE 2019 Republic Bank Grand Kadooment began with some overcast conditions in Warrens, one of the two assembly points for the annual jump-up yesterday.

From as early as 8am, many of the revellers were congregating in the Massy Warrens carpark, putting their final touches on their costumes, perfecting their make-up and grabbing a hot breakfast before hitting the road.

The brightly coloured bejewelled costumes, accentuated with feathers and vibrant jewels came to life when the sun started to emerge just after 9 am, creating sweltering conditions for the revellers.

The first band leaving Warrens was Aura at around 9:20 am, followed by Passion Vibes. Just after 10 am, Betty West was leaving the Warrens followed by Khepri Kulture, Lux, Envy Mas. Krave band brought up the rear, leaving around 10:50 am.

According to the National Cultural Foundation, from the Warrens starting point, bands proceeded along Green Hill, across Codrington Road to parade in front of the judges and then move onto Station Hill, Bank Hall Cross Road, Eagle Hall to Black Main Road and left at the Frank Worrell Roundabout onto the Mighty Grynner Highway. This year the bands did not parade before the judges at the National Stadium as is customary.

All bands continued along to Holborn where the revellers entered Kensington Oval for the ReWhine After Party.
