It was a tale of one journey reaching its end, but another majestic and exciting tale beginning for Shanel Ifill, during the Miss Universe Barbados Prize Giving Ceremony this past Thursday at the Sky Mall complex.
Members of Crown Events Inc., the brains behind the Miss Universe Barbados Franchise, contestants of this year’s Miss Universe Barbados competition along with their friends and families, came together for one last time to celebrate the big occasion which brought a close to this year’s local activities.
In his closing address to those gathered, National Director of Crown Events Inc., Brian Green, thanked his team and the contestants graciously for this years’ experience with the competition. It was his view that this years’ installment had the most support locally he has seen so far, because of the many leadership roles females currently occupy in Barbados.
“Every year our team starts this process around 3 weeks after the last show ends. We start thinking about what it’s going to look like, what can we do better, how can we make Barbados, our delegates and their families proud. This year as luck would have it, we were blessed with a country filled with leaders that are female. So leaning into ‘The Future is Female’ was the obvious choice”, he said.
Though he admitted that this year’s show was a big effort on the part of his team to pull off; Director Green was frank about his hopes for next year’s competition.
“Every year I end the night of the show by saying never again. This year, the first thing I said was I know what next year looks like, because I was inspired by you. You gave Barbados everything they thought they would never get. The reviews have been phenomenal but more importantly, what I have seen come out of it is the confidence, the shine and readiness to take on the world. For that, I am thankful.”
Director of the Caribbean and Latin America at Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI), Corey Garrett, was also on hand during the ceremony to congratulate the team of Crown Events Inc., and the 9 contestants on a job well done this year.
“The competition was another prestigious show and high caliber event where beauty and talent has become synonymous with the Miss Universe Franchise here in Barbados. The BTMI is extremely proud to be sponsoring what is the epitome of pageantry here in Barbados. As we continue on our mandate to position Barbados as the premiere holiday destination, we look forward to working with Shanel and the franchise to promote all of the effortless beauty and luxurious wonder our island has to offer.”
