The Small Business Association (SBA) will be offering an eCommerce for Small Businesses National Vocational Qualification in 2020.
This was announced by CEO of the SBA, Senator Dr. Lynette Holder, as she delivered remarks during the graduation ceremony for the 2018-2019 Entrepreneurial and National Vocational Qualification Training Programme.
She noted that these were in addition to the three NVQs that they were able to put on, which included Developing a New of Existing Business Enterprise and Accounting for Small Businesses, all at level three.
She encouraged persons present to not let the opportunity to get involved in the eCommerce for Small Businesses NVQ.
“Why is this important? Because of the impact of technology in how business is done. We know that technology is really the game changer for business and how we operationalise ourselves and the level of competitiveness that we bring to the market,” she said.
“This represents a significant change in how we bring educational products to the market place that you don’t have to go to the traditional learning centre and sit and complete four hour long exams.”
Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados, Cleviston Haynes strongly encouraged persons to get involved in the programme as eCommerce and technology were the future.
“Beyond using technology to increase your customers’ payment options and to promote your business, I encourage you, where appropriate, to consider e-commerce as a way to sell your products and services,” he said.
“More and more, people are demanding this type of convenience, being able to get what they want, when they want it, without leaving their home or office. If you can offer them this, you will increase your competitiveness.”
The Governor went on to offer three pieces of advice to graduates, stating that he hoped they listened to.
“I hope you will take my three pieces of advice to heart; continue to educate yourself, use available and emerging technology, and be open to change. These are the things that will make you not only competitive, but successful,” he said.
