With the inaugural Blue Fest completed, there are plans to make this event bigger in the coming year.
Such was revealed by Minister of Maritime Affairs and the Blue Economy, Kirk Humphrey when he spoke to the media during the Reception for Blue Fest 2019 held at Almond Bay, Hastings, Christ Church.
Humphrey spoke of plans by that ministry to make Blue Fest part of its We Gatherin’ Barbados 2020 activities during the upcoming year.
“It is going to be significantly bigger than it is now. We are hoping to have international partners involved in Blue Fest next year, maybe even a Blue Economy conference as part of Blue Fest because the whole world especially the developing countries are looking at the Blue Fest and looking at the
Blue Economy.”
He continued, “We have a number of plans and hopefully they will all workout in the short term. The Ministry has been working very hard to make sure that it happens. There has been a lot of attention both national, regional, international on the Blue Economy and what we are doing in that space, so you can look forward to much bigger things over the next year during our Blue Fest.”
In its first year, Blue Fest 2019 was sought to increase the public’s interest in things related to the ocean and to highlight some of the activities associated with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and the Blue Economy. It concluded last weekend with the Open Day at the Bridgetown Port. Other activities for the week-long event included tours by school children to the Berinda Cox Fish Market in Oistins and to the Barbados Coast Guard. (MG)
