Cheers rang out in the Sovereign Ballroom of Sandals Barbados on Friday as 16 young hotel professionals completed the hotel’s Hospitality Training Programme – its third and final cohort for the year.

Congratulating the group, General Manager Ferry Zievinger, reminded them that their aim should be to use the skills gained within the programme to head to the next level of their careers in hospitality. “Besides the certificates and experience, you should also glean for yourselves going forward the attitude of determination, passion and integrity, which are all key advocates of success in any environment. Go forward and build something with it. This is the time for bold measure, this is your country and you are the new generation,” he said.

He also extended a hand of welcome to 13 of the individuals, who were successful in gaining employment with Sandals.

Throughout the ten week programme, the individuals conducted 420 hours of training in the various departments of the hotel plant, including; the Kitchen, Restaurant, Bars, Stewarding and Room Service, Concierge, Front Office, Housekeeping and Laundry, Resort Shop, Photo Shop and Resort Sales, Cost Control, Accounting, Storeroom Operations, Maintenance Engineering and Entertainment.

Training and Development Manager, Glaister Williams, highlighted that through the programme, which caters to young people, the Barbadian workforce would be prepared to work in the Hospitality Industry whether locally, regionally or internationally.  (JMB)
