
St. Michael School at the GIrls and Boys Champions of the BNOCL Frank Blackman Zone of BSSAC.
The St. Michael School (SMS) came from behind to win their third Girls title and reclaim the Boys at the BNOCL Frank Blackman Zone of the Powerade Barbados Secondary Schools’ Athletic Championship at the National Stadium.
At the start of the day Combermere (214.5 points) held 17.5-point lead in the girls and a (162 points) 4-point lead in the Boys over SMS.
Coach of the SMS said that he was happy with where the two teams were at the end of the first day and he felt that they were actually in a better position than they expected.
With the biggest crowd in the stands, Combermere stood patiently waiting at the midway points to be announced. However after the 400m there was the changing of the guard and it was The St. Michael School that took over in both the Boys and Girls Standings.
Stand D which only had the Combermere School students in it went totally silent as SMS was read out to be in the lead.
In the girls, The St. Michael School with 340 points led Combermere with 326.5, while Springer Memorial was third with 254.5.
In the boys, SMS had 295 points, while Combermere was on 276 points and the early day one leaders, St. Leonard’s Boys’ was third with 245 points and Queen’s College fourth with 202.
With the fight back complete, SMS continued to pull away with strong Under-15, Under-17 and Under-20 teams in the Boys and Girls.
Some of the outstanding athletes for SMS were Rhea Hoyte (24.54 secs), who won the 200m upstaging Combermere’s Rickayla Fagan (24.61 secs); Jahzara Holford 400m (59.57 secs), Tenielle Chapman-Goodluck, Kayleigh Catwell, Asia Foster, Micah Blair, Darian Clarke Nathan Roett, and Jaquan Pilgrim.
The 200m was a hot topic on the track Amani Mascoll-Beckles from the Lodge School ran a cracker jack of a race never easing up until after the line to clock 21.75 secs in the Under-17 Boys 200m. Josiah Parris (SMS) was second in 22.1 secs and Jadon Pearce (St. Leonard’s Boys’) was third in 22.16 secs.
Aaliyah Agard from Frederick Smith won the Under-17 girls in 24.83 secs, second was Nya Browne (QC) in 24.87 secs.
In the Under-20 Mikhail Carvalho from Combermere won in 21.41 secs but due to an illegal wind he did not claim the Zone record which still stands at 21.54 secs. Second was Darian Clarke (SMS) in 21.55 secs and third was Nathan Roett (SMS) in 21.81 secs.
