Kim Holder lived up to her number one ranking as she won the Women’s World Title over Sheldene Walrond in the City of Bridgetown Cooperative Credit Union’s World Road Tennis Championships on Sunday.
Holder who was unhappy with her performance in the semi-finals came onto the court bouncing and looking ready to do battle against Walrond who was the only person to hand her a defeat in 2015.
With some heavy returns and slices Holder carved her way to the first game victory 21-15, after the two had traded points in the lead up until the score was locked at 14-14.
In the second game it looked as though Walrond had the upper hand leading 12-9 after the scores was locked on 8-8. However, Holder caught her and levelled the scores at 16 points apiece before a cross court winner by Holder was followed by numerous spoils by Walrond.
A spoil ended the game as Walrond hit her return from Holder’s serve into the net to give Holder the victory 21-17 and the match.
