Director of Medical Services at the QEH, Dr. Anthony Harris, noted that the cake-cutting ceremony formed part of the hospital’s week of activities.

Three members of staff of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital who were all born in November 1966, got the opportunity to celebrate with the hospital yesterday, during an Official Cake-Cutting Ceremony held to mark the QEH’s 52nd anniversary.

The ceremony, which formed part of the hospital’s annual week of activities, took place in the Staff Entrance Foyer of the QEH. It was there that Director of Medical Services, Dr. Anthony Harris, announced that there were four staff members in total born in November 1966, who will be turning 50 years of age, as the island celebrates its 50th Anniversary of Independence. However, only three were able to attend the special ceremony.

“This year is a very special year. It also coincides with the 50th anniversary of our nation and this morning, we have three (members of staff with us), there were to be four members (in total) … who were born on November 1966. They will also be turning 50 this year and these members are going to be the ones standing here cutting the cake,” Harris said.

“We have three of our staff who were born in November 1966, Ms. Shirley Burke, Mr. Stephen Leacock and Mr. David Hood, who are here with us,” Harris noted.
“This is an appreciation for the staff and we trust that we will see many more years (of them) working together and being more productive,” Dr. Harris further commented.

He then invited Director of Nursing Services, Bernadette Harris, who will soon be retiring, to assist the QEH staff with the official cake cutting, after Canon Noel Burke offered prayers for the hospital and its staff.

Shirley Burke and David Hood, who work in the Laundry Department of the QEH, will both be celebrating their birthdays on Tuesday, November 22. Burke noted that she first started working at the hospital on September 1, 1986, whilst Hood was with the QEH for the past five years. Stephen Leacock, who works in the Clinical Risk Management Unit, was with the hospital since 1997. He celebrated his birthday on November 7. (RSM)
