Guardian Group has once again stepped forward to invest in the youth of the island and yesterday donated 50 laptops to the Ministry of Education, Technology and Vocational Training.
Guardian Group has always had a focus in supporting the community, especially the youth. Yesterday at the Guardian Group Branch in Collymore Rock, the company joined hands with the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training and handed over the 50 laptops which will provide the necessary technological support for disadvantaged students to continue their studies.
The Guardian Group donation was part of the wider philanthropic response to facilitate the inclusion of households which have been directly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, especially those cases where parents are unable to provide the necessary technological tools for their children to continue their studies. The Group worked with the Ministry who provided information on the schools with the greatest needs.
Nigel Adams, Executive Manager of Guardian General Insurance Limited and Principal Representative of Guardian Life of The Caribbean explained that the presentation was the continuation of support of local youth which Guardian has been doing for years.
“Within recent times, we have supported the ‘In the Winners Circle’, an annual program organised by the Registrar of the Supreme Court of Barbados which is geared towards helping primary school children transition to secondary school,” explained Adams.
Guardian is the main sponsor for the Herman Griffith Cricket Competition and also sponsors the Pride of Villa Netball team and more recently youth football. Another pride of the company has been to sponsor the Barbados youth cricket team for over thirty years.
“We at Guardian Group strongly believe that no child must be left behind. It is with this in mind that we were compelled to respond to the call of the ministry to all Barbados to assist underprivileged children in the provision of tablets and laptops,” stated Adams.
The executive manager thanked Senator Dr Romel Springer, Parliamentary Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Technology & Vocational Training and Joy Adamson, Acting Chief Education Officer at the Ministry of Education, Technology & Vocational Training for attending to receive the laptops on behalf of the ministry. Adams also thanked Minister of Education, Technology & Vocational Training Santia Bradshaw for sending out the request to wider Barbados.
Senator Springer lauded the efforts of Guardian Group and expressed thanks to the group for yet another example of being a good corporate citizen. He also highlighted that the laptops and technology would play a vital role in the lives of school children in the near future. He expanded further by saying that it was not just about adapting to the crisis but moving forward with education reform. Springer also encouraged all of corporate Barbados to follow the example of Guardian Group to partner with the ministry to advance the agenda of leaving no child behind. (AS)
