...during 50th anniversary NIFCA Gala
KENSINGTON Oval was transformed into a vibrant cultural extravaganza featuring 1 000 of the nation’s youth at the 50th Anniversary NIFCA Gala on Sunday evening.
Held under the theme “Through the Eyes of a Child”, the event which was separated into segments namely, “Independence”, “Pride”, “Industry”, “Achievements” and “The Way Forward” featured awe-inspiring performances in a grand production, which featured two stages that led to flawless transitions between a packed programme of acts.
The young performers took to the stage in dance, choral speech, drama and song before an appreciative audience who could not get enough of the talented youth, who demonstrated that the future of Barbados’ cultural landscape is in good hands.
From tributes to sugar cane, the synchronised plaiting off our maypoles – including interconnected designs, stilt walkers, folk songs and also gospel, the gala event left the audience’s appetite for all things Barbadian satiated.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the event, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, Stephen Lashley, commended the young artistes for pulling out all the stops at the
special NIFCA gala.
He also commended the crowd in attendance for coming out in their numbers to celebrate the activities planned for the 50th Anniversary of Independence.
He noted that the Jubilee celebrations including the Crop Over events, which were rebranded for the Golden Anniversary, were well received. “...Then we have the Community Independence Celebrations Secretariat. All of the events, Spirit of Nation Show and the Community Independence Committees have done a good job... The country has responded to the programmes that we have put to them and there has been a grass roots response,” he said. (JH)
