Nathan Griffin is the top performer in the 2020 Common Entrance examination at St.Luke’s Brighton Primary School.
The Acting Principal of the rural school, Dr. Debbie Bovell, expressed her satisfaction in the young pupil’s recent academic success.
She informed the Barbados Advocate that Griffin received 91 in English and 95 in Mathematics with an A in Composition. His total converted score was 235.73 and he will be attending Harrison College later this month. The acting principal also revealed that his family has a strong legacy of academic excellence.
“He performed well, but also because he is one of three siblings who performed exceptionally well and entered Harrison College who attended St. Luke's Brighton Primary School,” said Dr. Bovell.
The educator noted that this year, the island’s top students received scores between 244.31 to 242.30. She commended Griffin’s efforts and the work of his teacher, Dawn Knight. She added that it is important to emphasise the achievements of the rural schools in Barbados.
While it is significant to celebrate the accomplishment of the St. George-based primary school, this year’s Common Entrance results also indicated a growing trend.
From the Ministry of Education’s Common Entrance top ten performers list, six students came from private schools. The island’s top student, Ayobami Adanya Leon Barker from St. Gabriel’s School received a score of 244.31 with an A in Composition.
The remaining four students attended government schools with two of them, Hilda Skeene Primary School and Bayley’s Primary School, representing the best performance of rural schools.
