Steve Hunte, a self-employed citizen of Barbados, has announced that come election time in 2018, he will be running as an independent candidate to become the representative for the
Christ Church South Constituency.

Hunte told The Barbados Advocate that he launched his campaign on October 31 in Oistins Bay Garden by means of a motorcade, adding that he felt that it was time for him to formally announce through the media, that he plans to run for the aforementioned position. He revealed that in 2013 he did run for that position, but he will not let his unsuccessful run hinder him from running again come 2018.

Hunte explained that the reason he will be running as an independent candidate is due to the fact that he believes that he will have more freedom than if he were a part of one of the Labour Parties. He said that he sees himself as a person willing to fight for the rights of the average Barbadian.

Hunte pointed out that he wants to see a change in the areas of politics, economics and the rules of law, in terms of how Barbados is governed politically and economically. He said that looking at the development that Barbados has undergone over the past 50 years, going to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is a slap in the face of the country’s development. (CLF)
