THE coronavirus has impacted all social gatherings and postponed many major events. But local restaurants and hotels are still ringing in 2021 with the same glamour and flair of past years, although on a smaller scale and a reduced price.
The Barbados Advocate researched some of the upcoming New Year’s Eve (NYE) events for 2020. The Radisson Aquatica Resort Barbados is serving a sumptuous buffet with a champagne toast for the New Year. With a menu including grilled salmon, tiger shrimp, and squid, the cost is $195.
The Cliff Barbados and Vujaday are hosting Lebanese/British promoter and DJ, Nicole Moudaber and Joe Santoro. The event is starting at $400.
The exclusive Sandy Lane Barbados will have its gala, but it will be for in-house guests only.
On the South Coast, Tabú Barbados in St. Lawrence Gap will host a “New Year’s Eve Tapas and Cocktail Party”. Accra Beach Hotel and Spa is treating its guests to a four-course NYE menu for $190. All NYE events are expected to adhere to all national COVID protocols.
Not all venues are celebrating
One party venue which will not be partying this year is the exclusive Nikki Beach. According to the business website, “Nikki Beach Barbados has temporarily paused operations until further notice.” This newspaper called the company for more information, but its mailbox was full.
However, the Nikki Beach brand is still operating in other territories.
Nikki Beach Miami is hosting its NYE celebrations, advertising a socially distanced event ironically with a “Teepee Package” with a price tag of $10,000 US dollars. In Dubai, the Nikki Beach Resort and Spa started celebrations on December 9 and will continue into January 1, 2021.
