On Pebbles Beach closer to Radisson Hotel locals and visitors alike stuck close to the shoreline.
Even though beaches were not closed following the new directive issued by Government on Thursday, New Year’s Day across popular beach spots didn’t see the traditional crowds.
When The Barbados Advocate visited Miami, Pebbles, Rockley and Brownes Beach, locals and visitors alike were either taking a dip or relaxing on the sand.
However, this wasn’t the case on the beaches of Batts Rock and Brandon’s, which saw minimal sea bathers. Red flags along that coast were a deterrent for beachgoers as the Barbados Meteorological Service (BMS) issued a Small Craft Warning and High Surf Advisory, which took effect yesterday.
The BMS encouraged sea bathers to avoid going into the water, and also warned that only vessels capable of withstanding the swell magnitudes should venture into the waters.
Nonetheless, on Batts Rock several surfers enjoyed the sea conditions as they tackled the waves. (TL)
