Rockley Beach was very light yesterday.
Although going to the beach remains as traditional on the weekend in Barbados as ‘Sunday food’, the current climate saw most giving the local pastime a miss yesterday. With the island seemingly under siege with a massive influx of COVID-19 cases among Barbadians after the announcement of a super-spreader event, many opted to not take in the sun, sea and sand.
During a recent address to the nation, Attorney General Dale Marshall announced that an overnight curfew was being instituted in a bid to curb any further spread of the viral infection. However, he did say that beaches and parks remained open with the provision that there was no gathering of groups of more than ten persons.
Despite having free reign to take in a sea bath and relax themselves, locals, for the most part, decided to stay in as largely visitors patronised the beaches. At the popular Browne’s Beach, which is usually dotted with persons on Sunday’s, a more demure image greeted beachgoers in the afternoon as only a handful of bathers were taking in the beautiful day. Similarly, at Rockley Beach, the situation was the same with mostly only visitors taking in the sand, sea and sun. (MP)
