Rev Dr Joel Cumberbatch has called for the church and the people of Barbados to make a serious effort to be good and to live wholesome lives.
Dr Cumberbatch, the District General Superintendent of the Wesleyan Holiness Church of the Caribbean, was speaking during the online Sunday morning service hosted by Chalky Mount Wesleyan Holiness Church. He explained that at this moment in time, the world was at a critical juncture and encouraged the listeners to live as God would want them to live, to bring honour and glory to God.
“So when we disobey, get involved in foolishness and display bad behaviour, not only do we discredit our families, our society and even our country but we can bring discredit to the name of Christ.”
The reverend also made the point that there must be an intentional mindset to get rid of things which are contrary to the will and purpose of God. He implored the viewers to get rid of bitterness and rage and anger, things like slander, envy and malice. The things which represent the carnal mind.
Reminding the saints that the apostle Paul recommended that all should aim to live as good and wholesome a life as possible, the general superintendent said that the world could be a better place than it was.
“If more people were committed to practising this, to being good, being caring and forgiving, to being compassionate and loving, to being Christlike, our communities, our region and the world at large would be a better place,” said Cumberbatch.
“As we face this year, I like you do not know what is ahead, but we serve a great God who is with us, who promised never to leave us or forsake us but to be with us always,” he added.
Dr Cumberbatch challenged all that could hear his voice to take up the task set out by Paul to the congregation in the book of Ephesians, to walk worthily, consistently and wisely and worshipfully everyday. In this walk, he suggested that there should be a humble demeanor as mentioned in Ephesians 4:1.
“Be completely humble and gentle, be patient. Bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. One God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it,” he quoted. (AS)
