Reverend Canon Austin Carrington of the Christ Church Parish Church shared the message that the mission of the church must go on during his sermon on Sunday.
One rural reverend is reminding Christians that the mission of the church must go on even though the environment is not the most friendly or co-operative.
This was the message of the Reverend Canon Austin Carrington during the Sunday virtual sermon at the Christ Church Parish Church.
The religious leader noted that the Church is a place of growth, development, and transformation and it is important to accept people wherever they are on life’s journey. He added it may be necessary to achieve the belonging first before they start to test the believing.
“Prejudice feeds aloofness and we can miss many opportunities if we are led by prejudice,” said Rev. Canon Carrington.
He emphasised that Christians should not have time to compete with others, tearing down others or being disdainful of those different from them. Rev. Canon Carrington also said that the Church should be thankful for the privilege of serving Christ and those who are adding value to the Church even if they are not adding value by societal standards.
The Reverend expounded that people are struggling with personal issues relating to their health, relationship, self-esteem, loneliness, financial difficulties, mental, emotional, and trust.
He suggested that Christians should become “pastors” while not becoming counsellors, a difficult role and it requires training.
“(A) pastor is the one who cares, who listens, the one who empathises with the people, the one who seeks to encourage and understand, to help and build up, that is the role of the pastor,” said Rev. Canon Carrington.
He said that it must be a collaborative effort of pastors and ministers as they are all part of the team which is working for Jesus Christ by making him known by Word and deed.
