Management and staff of Massy Distribution and Massy United Insurance teamed up yesterday to provide over 350 free Christmas meals to needy persons ,who eagerly gathered at the Salvation Army’s Reed Street Headquarters in Bridgetown, for the annual Christmas party.

Glenn Taylor, CEO of Massy Distribution, told The Barbados Advocate that the Christmas Party held at the Salvation Army is an initiative that has been taking place for a few years now, and it is just one of the ways in which Massy staff give back to the community at large.

“A few years ago, we took on this initiative with Massy United Insurance to celebrate the season with the needy, and to host it at the Salvation Army. We do recognise that there is a need in the community to provide for the needy and the underprivileged, so we have come together. It is under the Massy Corporate Care programme for the community, where we reach out to the needy, the under privileged and the community” Taylor revealed.

He added, “This is just one of our many programmes that we do, and we’re happy again to be back here, and we feel that the community gives to us during the year, by way of purchases and we are grateful for that and it is only fair that we give aback to those who purchase from us and contribute to the fortune of our business. So we are very blessed to be here again this year.”

Taylor noted that a lot of hard work goes into the initiative, as staff assist in decorating the premises, as well as with the preparation and serving of meals, which comes from Massy Stores Deli Department.

“In total, we would have about 35 staff members, but we do it in shifts – some with preparation, some with the serving of the food – and then there is the clean-up and we cater for approximately 350 lunches,” Taylor noted.

Divisional Commander, Major Sinous Theodore, later noted that he believed they would surpass the 350 mark, as word had spread about the Christmas initiative. Whilst most persons were from the Bridgetown area and its environs, Theodore noted that other persons from farther afield also came to get tickets for the event.

He meanwhile expressed his gratitude to the Massy team for the kind spirited gesture. (RSM)
