The school year 2015 to 2016 was one that the staff and students of Harrison College consider to be extremely successful, academically, sports-wise and in the area of extra-curricular activities.

Principal of the institution Juanita Wade announced during the school’s annual Speech Day and Prize-Giving Ceremony which was held in the school’s auditorium recently, that the students performed well in sports, examinations and extra-curricular activities. She said that these achievements were accomplished by the staff and students working together, to achieve the goals that they had set.

The Principal reported she was proud of the performance of each student, explaining that the success stretched from the second and third formers gaining 100 per cent pass rates in their Caribbean Certificate of Secondary Level Competence (CCSLC), to the incredible performance of the Lower and Upper Sixers in their Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE). She went on to reveal that from last year’s batch of students, nine of them were awarded Barbados Government Exhibitions and seven of them received Barbados Government Scholarship Awards.

Wade went on to say that the staff recognised that the success of the students relied on the hinges of the collaboration between both home and school and revealed that the staff was attempting to form closer ties with parents, so as to achieve greater success. However, though the academic side of the students was something she was proud of, Wade proudly announced that the students were also aiming to become well-rounded; with excellent performances in sports and extra-curricular activities.

She divulged that many of the students who sat the CCSLC examinations last year, had also completed 30 or more service hours in community projects, such as feeding the homeless and volunteering at the HOPE Foundation, among other initiatives. She added that one student even completed 100 hours of this community service. “The benefits that come about from these activities are immeasurable, both for the students and the community on the receiving end,” she beamed.
