Christmas came early for those members of the public and residents of The Villages at Coverley, who experienced a lovely evening out when they attended ‘Christmas In The Villages’ on Saturday.

This annual free event, which has been held for the past five years, featured a Christmas Market where locally made delicacies, craft, jewellery and other items were on sale, followed by an enjoyable entertain-ment package.

Sales Manager, Catherine Perkins told The Barbados Advocate that ‘Christmas In The Villages’ is staged yearly to give back to residents and the community. Perkins further said that they “plan on continuing” the event in coming years while pointing out that that each year the crowd has been getting bigger.

Saturday’s show opened with a flash mob by members of Operation Triple Threat. This group brought lots of youthful energy to the stage, setting the mood for the quality performances that followed.

The six member group, G-Syndicate was next up. They rendered selections including ‘Silent Night’ and ‘This Christmas’. A performance in dance was then done by Gentle Steps Academy who paved the way for the singers of Blackman Gollop Primary School.

The evening was not without drumming by the Graydon Sealy Drum Core, a dance presentation by Praise Academy of Dance and renditions of ‘Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree’ and ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ by staff of The Villages at Coverley.

Seasoned entertainers Chy’An, Nikita Browne, Red Plastic Bag, Joaquin and Kirk Brown and the Energy Band brought the show which featured dance, singing and drumming presentations to a close.

During the evening, a special appearance was made by the resident from the North Pole, Santa Claus, who came into the Town’s Square via a golf cart which was decked out as a sleigh. This was driven by Romono Robinson. Santa took photographs with the children while his elves handed out candy. (MG)
