Winners: Sports Editor Corey Greaves (centre), Andre Springer (right),  Michael Phillips (left) with the help of Amanda Gonsalves of the Advertising Department brought the #lifeinleggings movement to life.

THE staff of The Barbados Advocate showcased their talent in song, dance and drama which included a “bigly” comedic impersonation during the annual Christmas luncheon yesterday.

The highly anticipated and keenly contested event brings together staff from different departments who vie for a wide variety of prizes and more importantly bragging rights for an entire year.

This year, the Sports Department represented by Corey Greaves, Andre Springer and Michael Phillips with the help of Amanda Gonsalves of the Advertising Department brought the #lifeinleggings movement to life.

The group put together an impressive sequence of Barbadian stick licking, with the men singing the popular folk song ‘The Standpipe Song’ popularly known as “Every time She Pass”, depicting the harassment experienced by many women as they go about their daily lives. In a twist, Gonsalves brought her male counterpart to his knees after a flurry of impressive moves to the delight of the staff in attendance.

They beat out last year’s winner, Trump himself played by Teague James who with his wife Melania Trump portrayed by Sasha Mehter placed fifth in the keenly contested competition.

Placing second was Editorial Executive Paul Husbands who proved he is the “biggest boss” during a strong dance performance.  Alicia Jarvis showcased her vocal range during her sultry performance of “I Saw Mummy Kissing Santa Claus” while journalist Regina Selman Moore left everyone in stitches in a dramatic piece which brought to life a number of her “fictional” inconsiderate neighbours.

Meanwhile, the dance group from the Administration Department Crystal Codrington, Kyrie Crichlow, Nicole Whitehall performed a modern dance piece and then Assistant Executive Editor Allison White brought some Christmas spirit to the competition with “Jingle Bell Rock.” (JH)
