Barbadians may have to put up with some wet conditions going into the Christmas weekend, as some showers are expected to descend on the island likely this afternoon, into Friday, possibly into Saturday and parts of Sunday.
This was the forecast given by Meteorologist Clem Williams, as The Barbados Advocate spoke with him yesterday, seeking an update on the weather conditions.
“Based on what we have seen so far, I think (Thursday) into Friday is probably our best window where the showers are concerned. In other words, we are seeing the likelihood of the more intense showers occurring, let’s say (Thursday) afternoon into early Friday. That isn’t to say that we are not probably going to see some showers into Saturday, but we are looking at maybe most of the activity (Thursday) into Friday,” he told this newspaper.
“We are still seeing high moisture levels into Saturday, so again, we are not ruling out the possibility of a few showers Saturday, maybe into the first part of Sunday, but thereafter, then we will see gradual improvement,” he meanwhile added.
What does this mean for Barbadians who are planning to do their last minute Christmas shopping as the week closes, and those planning to keep up the yearly tradition of going to an early Christmas morning service? Well, Williams says the latter may have a chance, but persons may want to wrap up any last minute shopping sprees, as soon as possible.
“In short, I would say, Christmas being the Sunday, I think by (then), most people might still be able to go to church,” Williams said yesterday.
“In terms of if you are waiting until (Thursday) or Friday to do your Christmas shopping, you might want to do that sometime this afternoon.
“So as I said, the potential for a few showers (Thursday) into Friday, maybe even lingering into Saturday, with some improvements then as we go into Sunday. That is what we are seeing right now,” the meteorologist commented. (RSM)
