“WE believe this Recycling Project can have a major impact, because we know that waste disposal is one of the problems we do have in Barbados.”
This is according to Barbara Cooke-Alleyne, Registrar of the Supreme Court. She was speaking at the launch of the Recycling Project at the Ann Hill School, on behalf of the Caribbean Leadership Development Network – Barbados Chapter.
Cooke-Alleyne, “In terms of the Recycling Project, we want everyone on board. We thought it was important that the students of the Ann Hill School were also involved. Therefore, we started there and we plan to go further to get more young people involved. This is an important initiative at this time because we cannot hide and say we don’t have a waste problem and collection challenge. So it is important to get on board and teach Barbadians about becoming ‘green’, because it is obvious we need to address this challenge now. It starts with the youth and if they can learn the importance of recycling, it will make a difference to Barbados as they will encourage their parents.”
Meanwhile, speaking about the Caribbean Leadership Project, the Registrar stated, “The purpose of the programme is to develop leadership in the Caribbean integration. We discuss and learn how to be better leaders for our country and regional integration, and we are giving back what we have learnt by having this project called the ‘Bright Spot’.” (NB)
