During the Award of Scholarships yesterday, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Principal of the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Professor Eudine Barriteau announced that the educational institution has received special recognition which will provide opportunities for prospective American medical students to study at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, UWI Cave Hill.
Professor Barriteau explained that the National Committee of Foreign Medical Education of the United States Department of Education, the NCFMEA has recognised the Cave Hill campus as having met the US standards for medical education. In addition to this, Professor Barriteau added that the Faculty of Medicine of Cave Hill Campus is the only medical school in Barbados recognised by the US Government as meeting its stands for comparability in the provision of medical education.
“This is a very significant achievement for the Campus, the Faculty of Medicine and Barbados. This means that American students are eligible for federal loans to study medicine here if they so choose,” said Professor Barriteau.
However, she said that there are additional steps that the campus must put in place before they can aggressively target cohorts of US students. (KPB)
