Some of the people that braved the sun to take part in the national event.

Overcast skies did not faze Barbadians, who set out to be a part of Monday’s Human Chain Link.

The stretch from Bay Street Esplanade to Accra Hotel was a buzz of activity and excitement, as many gathered together for the opportunity to pass along one of the Broken Tridents and symbolically hug Barbados.

Eventually the overcast skies were replaced with blue skies and hot sun, but students, teachers, parents, business people and members of organisations joined hands and sang the National Anthem and other popular Barbadian folk songs together, before it was time to pass one of the many Broken Tridents along. Many expressed their excitement at having the chance to be a part of the Human Chain Link.

One of the many highlights of the morning was when soldiers of the Barbados Defence Force parachuted out of a plane in an attempt to gather photos of the nation-wide event from a different angle. Much to the delight of locals present, one of these soldiers landed safely and fashionably on the beach behind the Esplanade.
